Spain national team manager Julen Lopetegui is headed to the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid confirmed that he will take over the club at the conclusion of the 2018 World Cup.

The managerial vacancy arose when Zinedine Zidane surprisingly resigned from Real following a third-straight Champions League title earlier this month.

A goalkeeper in his playing days, the 51-year-old Lopetegui made spent three seasons with Real from 1988 to 1991, but made just one first team appearance.

This marks a return to club football for the Asteasu, Spain, native, who took over La Roja following the retirement of Vicente del Bosque after Euro 2016. Prior to that appointment, Lopetegui spent three seasons at Porto.
