The Anaheim Ducks beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in overtime Sunday night, which officially eliminated the Dallas Stars from playoff contention.

According to TSN Senior Hockey Writer Frank Seravalli, the Stars are the first team in the NHL's salary cap era to miss the Stanley Cup playoffs after racking up 80 points through 66 games played. They were 37-23-6 before they went 1-7-2 over their last 10.

This will mark the second year in a row the Stars have missed the playoffs after losing in the first round in 2015-16.

They have three games remaining, starting in San Jose Monday against the Sharks.
