Faulk gets fired up for Carolina, Hall keeps streaking in New Jersey; Scheifele, O’Reilly, Werenski and more in Scott Cullen’s Statistically Speaking.

HEROES

Justin Faulk – Carolina’s big-shooting blueliner had been struggling to finish this season, scoring four goals in 56 games, but put up a natural hat trick to open the game in a 7-3 win over Los Angeles. He had no goals and six assists in his previous 14 games.

Taylor Hall – He missed some time in the game after taking a heavy hit from Flyers defenceman Radko Gudas, but the Devils winger still scored two goals and had stellar possession stats (19 for, 5 against, 79.2 CF%, 8-1 scoring chances) in a 5-4 shootout win at Philadelphia. He has 23 points (11 G, 12 A) during a 15-game point streak.

Mark Scheifele – Winnipeg’s top centre scored a pair of goals and set up the overtime winner in a 4-3 win against Washington. He had five points (1 G, 4 A) in his previous 13 games.

Ryan O’Reilly – The Sabres centre is picking up his play and produced a goal and two assists in a 5-3 win against Tampa Bay. He also won 25 of 42 face-offs in the game. The rest of Buffalo’s skaters took a total of 31 face-offs. In the past 16 games, O’Reilly has put up 18 points (9 G, 9 A).

Zach Werenski – Columbus’ sophomore blueliner put up three assists in a 4-1 win at the Islanders, matching his offensive production in his previous 16 games.

ZEROES

Mikael Backlund and Michael Frolik – The Flames forwards had a tough night (9 for, 18 against, 33.3 CF%, 4-10 scoring chances) and were on the ice for three goals against in a 5-2 loss at Boston.

Cody Ceci –  In a 6-3 loss at Pittsburgh, the Senators blueliner who has typically been paired with the now-departed Dion Phaneuf, was on the ice for three goals against.

Patrik Laine – The Jets sniper was on the ice for all three goals against in a 4-3 overtime victory against Winnipeg.

Mike Condon – The Senators netminder was lit up for four goals on nine shots before getting pulled from a 6-3 loss at Pittsburgh. He had a .926 save percentage in his previous five games.

Jonathan Quick – The Kings goaltender was pulled from a 7-3 loss at Carolina after allowing four goals on 20 shots in a little more than 21 minutes. He has a .872 save percentage in the past five games.

VITAL SIGNS

Anthony Duclair and Vinnie Hinostroza – The reeling Blackhawks left the young forwards as healthy scratches for a 5-2 loss at Vegas.

Scott Wedgewood – The Arizona goaltender was having a good game, but suffered a concussion and was forced to leave a 2-1 win at San Jose.
