McDavid is doing what he can to carry the Oilers, Hall has a strong game before getting hurt, Vasilevskiy in fine form and more in Scott Cullen’s Statistically Speaking.

HEROES

Connor McDavid – Edmonton’s superstar pivot put up a goal and three helpers in a 7-2 romp at Columbus. He has 20 points (5 G, 15 A) in the past 14 games.

Taylor Hall – The Devils left winger scored two goals in a 5-1 win over Los Angeles, and has 10 points (5 G, 5 A) in the past nine games. He was also injured late in the game, taking a hit on the knee from Kings defenceman Kurtis MacDermid. Hall will be re-evaluated Wednesday.

Andrei Vasilevskiy – Tampa Bay’s emerging star netminder posted a 32-save shutout in a 3-0 win at St. Louis, giving him a .943 save percentage in his past dozen starts.

ZEROES

Nathan MacKinnon – Colorado’s top centre had a tough night at even strength (11 for, 20 against, 35.5 CF%) and was on the ice for three goals against in a 5-2 loss at Washington.

Aaron Ekblad and Keith Yandle – Florida’s top defence pair was on the wrong side of the puck (6 for, 29 against, 17.1 CF%) and on the ice for two goals against in a 3-2 overtime loss to Chicago.

Anze Kopitar, Jake Muzzin and Drew Doughty – A tough night for three of the Kings’ top performers. Kopitar (5 for, 13 against, 27.8 CF%), Muzzin (7 for, 13 against, 35.0 CF%) and Doughty (9 for, 14 against, 39.1 CF%) were all on for two goals against in a 5-1 loss at New Jersey.

Jonathan Quick – The Kings netminder had been off to a terrific start this season, but allowed five goals on just 26 shots in a 5-1 loss at New Jersey. He had a .926 save percentage in his previous 11 games.

Sergei Bobrovsky – Columbus’ star goaltender was pulled after allowing five goals on 26 shots through two periods in a 7-2 loss to Edmonton, and has a .889 save percentage in his past five starts.

VITAL SIGNS

Devan Dubnyk – The wild netminder left after the first period against Calgary, sidelined by a lower-body injury. He was replaced by Alex Stalock.

Brandon Dubinsky – The Columbus centre was slugged in the eye by Oilers winger Zack Kassian late in Edmonton’s 7-2 win, suffering a fractured cheek/orbital bone.

 

Radim Vrbata – Florida’s veteran winger was a healthy scratch against Chicago. He has no goals and one assist in his past 13 games.

Richard Panik – The Chicago winger was a healthy scratch against Florida. He has managed no goals and one assist in the past 11 games.

Marc-Andre Fleury – Vegas’ veteran netminder stopped 35 of 37 shots in his first game in nearly two months, a 3-2 shootout loss to Carolina.

Mikhail Sergachev – The Lightning rookie defenceman recorded an assist, and played 21:30 at St. Louis; that’s two minutes more than his previous career high for ice time.

SHORT SHIFTS

Sean Couturier is fulfilling his offensive potential this season.

Flyers C Sean Couturier and LW Claude Giroux both had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win against Toronto. Couturier has eight points (3 G, 5 A) in the past nine games, and Giroux has 13 points (4 G, 9 A) in the past 10 games…Capitals C Evgeny Kuznetsov put up three assists in a 5-2 win vs. Colorado, giving him 15 points (7 G, 8 A) in the past 14 games…Capitals rookie D Madison Bowey chipped in a couple of assists, after going 13 games without a point…Sabres D Rasmus Ristolainen had a couple of assists in a 3-2 win over Ottawa. He had gone seven straight games without a point…Oilers RW Jesse Puljujarvi, C Mark Letestu, and D Matt Benning each contributed a goal and an assist in a 7-2 win at Columbus. Puljujarvi has five points (3 G, 2 A) in the past five games, Letestu has eight points (3 G, 5 A) in the past seven games, and Benning matched his production from the previous 11 games…Oilers D Darnell Nurse added a couple of assists, giving him five assists in the past six games…Lightning C Brayden Point and RW Tyler Johnson both contributed a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win at St. Louis. Point has seven points (4 G, 3 A) during a five-game point streak, and Johnson has nine points (3 G, 6 A) during a five-game point streak…Blackhawks LW Brandon Saad and C Jonathan Toews both had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 overtime win vs. Florida. Saad matched his production from the previous seven games while Toews has six points (3 G, 3 A) in the past six games…Blackhawks rookie RW Alex DeBrincat chipped in a couple of assists, giving him 16 points (9 G, 7 A) in the past 15 games…The Flyers’ line of Taylor Leier, Scott Laughton and Travis Konecny had a terrific possession game (17 for, 2 against, 89.5 CF%) in a 4-2 win over Toronto…The Panthers defence pairing of Mackenzie Weegar and Alex Petrovic had a solid game (23 for, 5 against, 82.1 CF%) in a 3-2 overtime loss to Chicago…Hurricanes rookie D Haydn Fleury had a tough night (2 for, 14 against, 12.5 CF%) at Vegas.
