HEROES

Mitch Marner – Toronto’s sophomore winger erupted for two goals and three assists, with outrageous possession numbers (27 for, 4 against, 87.1 CF%, 13-2 scoring chances) in Saturday’s 6-3 win over Ottawa.

He has 11 points (7 G, 4 A) in the past 10 games, and has recorded 34 shots on goal in that time, a major increase from his previous rate – he averaged two shots on goal per game in the previous 47 games.

Mathew Barzal – For the third time this season, the Islanders rookie recorded a five-point game, earning five assists in Friday’s 7-6 overtime win against Detroit. He added another assist in Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Calgary, giving him 22 points (3 G, 19 A) in the past 15 games.

Joe Pavelski – San Jose’s captain led the way in Saturday’s 6-4 win against Edmonton, scoring two goals and adding two assists. He was held off the scoresheet Sunday, and has 18 points (6 G, 12 A) in the past 18 games.

Henrik Zetterberg – Detroit’s veteran centre tallied a goal and three helpers in Friday’s 7-6 overtime loss at the Islanders then added an assist in Sunday’s 5-4 win at Washington. He has produced 23 points (3 G, 20 A) in the past 25 games.

Brock Nelson – The Islanders centre had a hat trick in a 7-6 overtime win vs. Detroit. He has 10 points (5 G, 5 A) in the past 10 games.

Sean Couturier – Philadelphia’s ace two-way pivot had a goal and two assists in Sunday’s 4-1 win at Vegas. He’s been brilliant this season, and has 26 points (12 G, 14 A) in the past 21 games.

Matthew Tkachuk – Calgary’s second-year left winger scored a pair of third-period goals to lift the Flames to a 3-2 win at the Islanders. He’s put up 17 points (12 G, 5 A) in the past 18 games.

Devan Dubnyk – The Minnesota goaltender posted a 44-save shutout in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Chicago. He had a .900 save percentage in his previous eight games.

Pekka Rinne – Nashville’s netminder turned away 47 of 49 shots in Saturday’s 3-2 shootout win at Montreal. He has a .941 save percentage in his past nine starts.

ZEROES

Kyle Okposo – The Sabres winger had a tough weekend (11 for, 30 against, 26.8 CF%, 3-18 scoring chances) and was on the ice for four 5-on-5 goals against in a win at Boston and loss vs. Colorado.

Carter Rowney – Pittsburgh’s fourth-line centre struggled (7 for, 22 against, 24.1 CF%, 1-15 scoring chances) in a shootout loss at Dallas and win at St. Louis.

Petr Mrazek – Detroit’s netminder allowed seven goals on 29 shots in Friday’s 7-6 overtime loss at the Islanders. He had been on a good run, with a .958 save percentage in his past seven games.

Craig Anderson – Ottawa’s veteran goaltender allowed three goals on 10 shots before getting pulled after 11:30 in Saturday’s 6-3 loss at Toronto. He had been getting better results lately, with a .924 save percentage in his previous eight starts.

VITAL SIGNS

Mike Smith – Calgary’s starting netminder left Sunday’s win over the Islanders with a groin injury. David Rittich could be looking at some important playing time if Smith is sidelined.

Andrej Sekera – The veteran Oilers defenceman suffered a facial injury at Anaheim Friday, and didn’t play in San Jose Sunday.

Drake Caggiula – Edmonton’s second-year winger lost some teeth against the Ducks, and also missed the San Jose game. Time for full facial protection in Edmonton.

Ondrej Pavelec – The Rangers netminder suffered a sprained MCL Friday and will be out 2-3 weeks.

Chris Tanev – Vancouver’s oft-injured shutdown defender is out for at least a week with a leg injury.

Jimmy Vesey – Returned to the Rangers lineup Sunday at Winnipeg after missing a week with a concussion.

Marleau had two goals in the previous 16 games, and Kadri has 10 points (4 G, 6 A) in the past eight games…Senators RW Mark Stone returned to the lineup, after missing three weeks with a knee injury, and earned a pair of assists in Saturday’s 6-3 loss at Toronto. Stone has 12 points (3 G, 9 A) in the past seven games…Canadiens LW Artturi Lehkonen picked up a pair of assists in Saturday’s 3-2 shootout loss to Nashville. Neal Pionk – The 22-year-old defenceman, who was signed as a free agent out of Minnesota-Duluth in the spring, and made his NHL debut in Friday’s 4-3 win vs. Calgary. He had 17 points (1 G, 16 A) in 48 AHL games.

John Gilmour – Drafted by Calgary, but signed by the New York Rangers after a four-year career at Providence College, the 24-year-old made his NHL debut in Friday’s 4-3 win against the Flames. He had 26 points (6 G, 20 A) in 44 AHL games.
