RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks could be in the market for a tight end when free agency begins after veteran Zach Miller was released on Friday.

Miller had his contract terminated with the designation of "failed physical." Miller played in just three games last season before undergoing ankle surgery in late September. He was placed on injured reserve in November after complications slowed his recovery.

Miller spent four seasons with the Seahawks after signing as a free agent in 2011. He proved more important as a blocker than a pass catcher in Seattle's offensive system. Miller played in 48 regular season games in his four seasons with Seattle and finished with 102 receptions and eight touchdowns.

Miller restructured his contract before the 2014 season to remain with Seattle. Miller's release leaves the Seahawks with just three tight ends under contract: Luke Willson, Cooper Helfet and RaShaun Allen. Tony Moeaki was picked up at midseason when it became apparent Miller would not return, but is an unrestricted free agent.

The Seahawks also waived oft-injured defensive tackle Jesse Williams, waived/non-football illness Garrett Scott and re-signed defensive lineman Greg Scruggs to a one-year contract. Williams suffered a major knee injury in training camp last summer and never appeared in a regular season game after being drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 draft.

Scott was a late-round selection by Seattle in 2014 but was found to have a heart condition.

Scruggs was drafted by Seattle in the seventh round in 2012. He missed the 2013 season with an injury and appeared in three games in 2014 before injuring his knee in Week 9 against Oakland. He was placed on injured reserve in early November.
