Edwards narrowly defeats Cerrone

In the main event of this past weekend's UFC Fight Night card in Singapore, Leon Edwards looked to prove that he was a future contender by beating former lightweight title challenger Donald Cerrone.

While Edwards managed to earn a unanimous decision victory, he did so in an efficient, but not fan friendly fashion, as he chugged his way through the fight without pulling the trigger.

Following the fight, Cerrone said that he was sick all day and could barely get out of bed, but despite not wanting to fight, he did so anyhow.

After earning the decision victory, Edwards called out fellow ranked welterweight Jorge Masvidal, who currently does not have a fight lined up.

Edwards improves to 8-2 in the UFC, extending his win streak to six and he has never lost inside the distance.

Yan makes spectacular debut

Petr Yan was considered one of the best bantamweights outside of the UFC for some time and he aimed to show why when he made his promotional debut this past weekend in Singapore.

Yan did just that when he defeated Teruto Ishihara in the first round in devastating fashion. Yan had not defeated an opponent in the first round in nearly three years and his opponent had never been knocked out previously.

The 25-year-old Yan improved to 9-1 with the win.

Bonuses and attendance

UFC Fight Night in Singapore drew 6,419 attendees for an undisclosed gate.

Fight night performance bonuses went to Ovince St. Preaux for his first round submission victory over Tyson Pedro in the first round of the co-main event, Song Yadong for his knockout win over Felipe Arantes and Shane Young and Rolando Dy each received bonuses for their back and forth fight that Young won.

Each earned an additional $50,000.

Usman close to finalizing extension

Riding high off of a statement win over former welterweight and middleweight title challenger Demian Maia, Kamaru Usman, who is undefeated in the UFC, is close to finalizing an extension with the UFC.

According to Ariel Helwani on his new ESPN show, Ariel and the Bad Guy, Usman and the promotion were close to agreeing to terms on a new contract.

Usman told Helwani that he had a great meeting with UFC President Dana White and that he is excited about his future.

Usman, the winner of eight straight fights, is one of the most feared fighters in the welterweight division, which has been exhibited by his inability to secure fights with other ranked fighters.

He is currently ranked sixth in the division and does not currently have an opponent lined up.

It may be awhile before Usman fights as he said he broke both of his hands during his fight with Maia.

Former champion Machida departs the UFC

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida is no longer with the promotion.

His contract with the UFC has elapsed and as a result, Machida has decided to sign with rival organization Bellator.

Machida and his manager Jorge Guimares both thanked the UFC for eleven great years, where he secured victories over the likes of Tito Ortiz, Rashad Evans, Maurício Rua, Randy Couture, Dan Henderson and current Bellator light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader.

Machida's most recent win was a throwback front kick knockout over Vitor Belfort in his retirement fight that was eerily similar to the one that he landed against Randy Couture in Couture's final fight.

At age 40, Machida joins his older brother Chinzo, who is also a fighter in Bellator.
