VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed veteran right back Scott Sutter to their growing roster.

The club announced Wednesday that an agreement had been inked with the 32-year-old defender for the 2019 season, with an option for 2020.

Sutter spent the past two seasons with Orlando City SC, where he had four goals and six assists in 51 appearances.

The dual Swiss-U.K. citizen previously played 14 seasons in the Swiss Super League and has two caps with Switzerland's national team.

Because he holds a U.S. Green Card, Sutter will occupy a domestic spot in Vancouver's lineup.

Whitecaps coach Marc Dos Santos says in a statement that Sutter brings a lot of experience to the team.

"Scott is a competitor and we are happy to have him join our club," Dos Santos said. "He will be a great addition to our young locker room."
