Canada: 4 W - 0 OTW - 1 OTL - 2 L, Fourth Place

The 2014 tournament will be remembered as the first to present Canada with a medal drought at the World Juniors since the Program of Excellence's inception in 1982.

For a second straight year, Canada was topped by Russia in the bronze medal game. The loss marked the first time since 1979-1981 that Canada was unable to take home a medal in back-to-back tournaments.

Canada had trouble getting started throughout the tournament, surrendering the opening goal in every game but one.

Bouncing back was easy enough in the tournament opener, with Canada overpowering the German squad 7-2. However, Canada would see its first sign of trouble in their second game of preliminary round play, losing 5-4 in a shootout to the Czech Republic.

The Canadians would finish group play with a pair of comeback performances against Slovakia and the United States that would provide sufficient points for Canada to win their group.

However, after beating Switzerland in the quarter-finals the Canadian team would stumble in the semis against Finland. Goaltender Juuse Saros would keep the Canadians at bay, helping Finland to a 5-1 win and a berth in the gold medal game.

A third straight semifinal defeat for Canada ensured a rematch with Russia for bronze, but Canada would once again struggle to score and drop the bronze medal game 2-1.

Anthony Mantha led the offensive charge for Canada, notching five goals and 11 points.

The tournament also marked the World Junior debut for Connor McDavid, who represented Canada at just 16 years of age. He became the sixth player to do so, joining Wayne Gretzky, Eric Lindros, Jason Spezza, Jay Bouwmeester and Sidney Crosby.
