Bouchard crushes Govortsova in first round at US Open

Canada's Eugenie Bouchard, the women's seventh seed from Westmount, Que., steamrolled her way into the second round of the US Open with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Olga Govortsova on Tuesday. Bouchard produced 19 winners and broke on four of six chances against her 117th-ranked Belarusian opponent, whom she also beat two years ago on hardcourt in Washington. Seven-Eleven

Mike Napoli hit a mammoth three-run homer into the upper deck and Allen Craig added a two-run shot as the Boston Red Sox scored seven in the 11th inning to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 11-7 on Tuesday night. Toronto (66-66) has now lost six of eight series (1-6-1) dating back to July 31. The Jays were last at .500 on May 15 when they were 21-21. Full Story.

Cooling Them Off

Rick Porcello pitched eight impressive innings, and the Detroit Tigers snapped New York's five-game winning streak Tuesday night, beating the Yankees 5-2. Porcello (15-8) joined teammate Max Scherzer as the American League's only 15-game winners, allowing two runs and nine hits. Full Story.
