Here are a few topics from this week's edition that stood out:

On Kevin Shattenkirk:

"Blues GM Doug Armstrong would have liked to get a lot more for Kevin Shattenkirk. As it was, he got Zach Sanford - who could turn out to be a useful forward - and the first-round pick is not insignificant although it's not a great draft and Washington is probably going to be the Presidents' Trophy winner when all is said and done.

The Blues thought they had a deal done with the Tampa Bay Lightning five or six weeks before the deadline. But because Kevin Shattenkirk wouldn't sign a contract extension with the Lightning, that fell apart. They also thought they had a deal last summer with Edmonton, but with a similar situation where he wouldn't agree to an extension. So I don't think you can blame Doug Armstrong in this situation, the market is the market..."

From the Bobcast: Armstrong wanted more for Shattenkirk He ended up with the Capitals, but where else could Kevin Shattenkirk have gone before the trade deadline? On the Flyers/Lightning/Penguins and Mark Streit:

"Now I don't think there was any question whatsoever that when Ron Hextall traded Mark Streit to the Tampa Bay Lightning, he knew that there was a very good chance that Steve Yzerman was going to flip him - if not to the Pittsburgh Penguins, then to somewhere else. And that's why the Flyers built a condition into the trade that they would get a seventh-round pick for that to happen...."

From the Bobcast: The curious case of Mark Streit It was a busy trade deadline for Mark Streit, as he moved across the state of Pennsylvania with a quick stop in Florida. Bob McKenzie explores Streit's busy day in this snippet from the Bobcast. For more, download the full audio at tsn.ca/bobcast.
From the Bobcast: Why trade for Eric Fehr? Maple Leafs fans may be wondering: Why Toronto traded for Eric Fehr rather than just claiming him off of waivers? Bob McKenzie looks at why the Leafs went after the veteran forward in this snippet from the Bobcast. For more, download the full audio at tsn.ca/bobcast.
