Here are a few topics from this week's edition that stood out:

On Kevin Shattenkirk:

"Blues GM Doug Armstrong would have liked to get a lot more for Kevin Shattenkirk. As it was, he got Zach Sanford - who could turn out to be a useful forward - and the first-round pick is not insignificant although it's not a great draft and Washington is probably going to be the Presidents' Trophy winner when all is said and done.

The Blues thought they had a deal done with the Tampa Bay Lightning five or six weeks before the deadline. But because Kevin Shattenkirk wouldn't sign a contract extension with the Lightning, that fell apart. They also thought they had a deal last summer with Edmonton, but with a similar situation where he wouldn't agree to an extension. So I don't think you can blame Doug Armstrong in this situation, the market is the market..."

On the Flyers/Lightning/Penguins and Mark Streit:

"Now I don't think there was any question whatsoever that when Ron Hextall traded Mark Streit to the Tampa Bay Lightning, he knew that there was a very good chance that Steve Yzerman was going to flip him - if not to the Pittsburgh Penguins, then to somewhere else. And that's why the Flyers built a condition into the trade that they would get a seventh-round pick for that to happen...."
