Heading into the 2017 season the Blue Bombers depth chart appears to be set with Matt Nichols as the club's starting quarterback following a breakout 2016 season. Newly acquired pivot Dan LeFevour and third-year Blue Bomber Dominique Davis will enter camp in a battle for the backup role.

LeFevour, entering his fifth season in the CFL, was signed in February to provide more depth at the position.

“I’m hungry to play," said LeFevour, now with his third CFL club. "Any quarterback up here wants to play. If you don’t, get out of here — go do something else. My goal is to play, just like the other three guys in the room right now."

Davis has been the Blue Bombers' developmental quarterback for the last two seasons, signed as a free agent following his release by the Calgary Stampeders early in 2015.

"Even last year I feel like I can go in the game and win," said Davis, whose lone CFL start came in Week 20 in 2015. "This year (I am) even more confident that I can go in and dominate a game, than just trying to win or trying to not lose it. So this year I feel I can go in and really dominate and show that I'm a pretty good quarterback in this league."

At the end of mini-camp Blue Bombers head coach Mike O'Shea was pleased with the play of his quarterbacks. "I thought they both fared extremely well, they both can lead a huddle, they both have attritubtes that are extremely likeable that would fare them well on the field," said O'Shea. We like our quarterbacks, we really do."

The position battles get underway when main training camps begin league-wide May 28.
