St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays have called up veteran outfielder Grady Sizemore from the minors.

Sizemore will serve as the Rays' designated hitter and bat second in the lineup Sunday against the Boston Red Sox.

He recently signed a minor league contract with the Rays after being released by Philadelphia on June 1.

The three-time All-Star hit .245 with five doubles and six RBI in 39 games with the Phillies this season.

To make room for Sizemore on the active roster, the Rays optioned pitcher Matt Andriese to Triple-A Durham. Outfielder Desmond Jennings (knee surgery) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to clear a spot for Sizemore on the 40-man roster.

Andriese allowed one hit over six scoreless innings in Saturday's 4-1 win.
