San Jose sharks defenceman Brent Burns scored his first goal of the season during a 5-4 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. It was his 900th NHL game.  

Last year's Norris Trophy winner lead all defenceman in goals in 2016-17, scoring a career high 29 goals. Burns had eight points in 21 games before Friday, all assists.

The Sharks were down 4-1 when Burns scored, starting a comeback that would see San Jose tie the game at four. Joe Thorton won the faceoff in the Golden Knights zone, passed the puck back to Burns who one timed it past Vegas goaltender Maxime Lagace.

But the Golden Knights would win in overtime on a goal by Jonathan Marchessault.

San Jose finds themselves one point back of the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.
