WASHINGTON — Alex Ovechkin had a goal and an assist and Braden Holtby made 24 saves to help the Washington Capitals beat the New York Islanders 4-0 on Sunday in an exhibition game.

Andre Burakovsky, Lars Eller and T.J. Oshie also scored for the Capitals.

Ovechkin's goal came on the power play and was his first this preseason since returning from playing for Team Russia in the World Cup of Hockey.

Defenceman Brooks Orpik had two assists.

Jaroslav Halak made 23 saves for the Islanders.

DUCKS TOP SHARKS ON PERRY'S OT GOAL

In Anaheim, California, Corey Perry scored unassisted at 1:13 of overtime to give the Anaheim Ducks a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Jakob Silfverberg scored twice for the Ducks, including the tying goal at 10:18 mark of the third period, and Jonathan Bernier made 30 saves. Jones Donskoj had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, David Schlmeko added a goal, and Aaron Dell stopped 22 shots.

The game saw the Pacific Division rivals engage in a line brawl late in the first period after Anaheim centre Andrew Cogliano knocked down San Jose defenceman Dylan DeMelo with a shoulder check to the body. Sharks defenceman Dan Kelly and Ducks centre Ryan Kesler were assessed game misconducts.
