Connor McDavid will not be joining Team Canada at the world hockey championship in Paris, France.

The Oilers captain was eliminated from the playoffs in Game 7 by the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday. His teammate, Leon Draisaitl, appears likely to join Germany at the tournament.

The 20-year-old scored one goal and added eight assists at the tournament last year as Canada won gold.

He played in all 82 regular season games for the Oilers this season, scoring 30 goals and leading the NHL with 100 points. He also led the league in assists with 70.

In his first career postseason, McDavid scored five goals and four assists in 13 games.

Canada has two free roster spots remaining for players and one spot remaining at goaltender. The undefeated will face France on Thursday.
