Team SoloMid’s dream season ended with a 3-1 victory over Cloud9 in the North American League Championship Series Summer Split final in front of a packed house at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

The win gives TSM their fourth LCS title in eight championships since the LCS format was put in place in 2013. They will be the top North American seed at the World Championships.

Cloud9 struck first with a Game 1 victory built on the strength of their teamwork and a dominant performance by Andy "Smoothie" Ta on Trundle. Smoothie took part in 16 of his team’s 19 kills and finished with a 1/1/15 KDA.

TSM took over in Game 2 and controlled the map with successful teams fights and the threat of a five-man engage throughout. Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng was the catalyst for the rebound with an 8/0/6 KDA on Jhin as the eventual champions tied the series.

Cloud9 came out strong for Game 3 and grabbed an early lead, but the advantage would fade as their patience and execution began to falter. TSM met the Cloud9 attack at every turn and flipped their advances on them. The promising start meant little as TSM took Game 3 in under 30 minutes, the shortest match of the series.

Game 4 was close, but TSM had the upper hand for much of the match. The teams traded aces before the 40-minute mark, but the latter by TSM proved to be the difference maker and the beginning of the end. One more team fight in the Baron pit would cost Cloud9 four out of five champions, the game and the series.

With the win and TSM’s automatic qualification to Worlds, Cloud9 is the second seed in the North American regional bracket and will face either Team Liquid or Team Envy, and Immortals. Counter Logic Gaming booked a spot at Worlds on Championship Points.
