IIHF reverses decision on Russia ban for 2026-27, will make decisions on ’event-by-event basis’

The IIHF has reversed its decision to ban Russia from all 2026-27 competitions and will instead now make a decision on eligibility on an 'event-by-event basis.' The decision could allow Russia take part in the World Juniors this December, along with various other upcoming events. The team was barred from taking part in the Olympics and World Hockey Championship this year.

Macklin Celebrini opened the scoring on the power play, Jet Greaves made 34 stops to keep the Americans off the scoreboard and Canada beat the United States in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Sidney Crosby scored his first goal of the tournament on an empty-netter, and Dylan Holloway and Connor Brown also found the back of the net.
