Celebrini happy with 'complete game' from Canada

Kristian Pospisil opened the scoring for Slovakia before captain Marek Hrivik’s third-period goal put them up for good in a victory over Norway. Slovakia goaltender Samuel Hlavaj made 22 saves in the win.

Benjamin Nissner, Peter Schneider, Thimo Nickl, Dominic Zwerger and Bernd Wolf all cashed in with two points apiece, and David Kickert made 10 saves as Austria started the World Championships with a bang over Great Britain.

Connor Brown scored the game-winner early in the third period, Fraser Minten and Porter Martone had a pair of assists apiece and Canada downed Sweden to open its World Hockey Championship with a victory.

The hosts of the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship got off to a great start in Zurich with a 3-1 upset win against the United States. Pius Suter and Sven Andrighetto scored one goal each and picked up assists on each other’s goals, while Leonardo Genoni made 16 saves for Switzerland.


WHC: Denmark 1, Czechia 4

Czechia opened its 2026 IIHF World Championship campaign with a 4-1 victory over Denmark. Dominik Kubalik and Daniel Vozenilek each found the back of the net in the first period, while Roman Cervenka struck early in the third period to claim his 34th World Championship goal.


WHC: Canada vs. Sweden extended highlights

It was a back and forth affair with Canada pulling out ahead of Sweden in the end as Connor Brown's goal early in the third broke a 3-3 tie and led Canada to a 5-3 victory.


WHC: Germany 1, Finland 3

Jesse Puljujarvi scored the eventual game-winner in the third period as Finland opened the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship with a 3-1 win over Germany on Friday.
