Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez homered as the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep. Toronto (72-72) dropped a game behind Cleveland for the final American League wild card. The Guardians edged Detroit 3-2 in 10 innings.

Daniel Schneemann singled home rookie Angel Genao from third base in the 10th inning to send Cleveland to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, the Guardians' third walk-off victory in the four-game series.

Kazuma Okamoto had four hits and two RBI, including a tiebreaking single in the seventh inning, as the surging Blue Jays edged the Royals to pull even with Cleveland for the final AL Wild Card spot. Toronto won for the seventh time in eight games and moved over .500 for the first time since April 3.

Carlos Rodón and four relievers held San Diego to three hits as New York pulled within a victory of clinching its 34th straight winning season.

Jonathan Aranda hit a three-run home run in the 10th inning to give the Rays a victory over the Rangers on Saturday night. Tampa Bay has won two straight after losing the opener of the four-game series and has the best record in the American League at 85-57.

Sonny Gray pitched seven three-hit innings for his majors-leading 17th victory to help the Red Sox beat the Orioles on Saturday night. Gray struck out seven and walked three while moving ahead of Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sánchez for the wins lead.

Riley Greene hit two solo homers, had a season-high four hits and drove in four runs, and Framber Valdez threw seven innings to help the Tigers blank the Guardians on Saturday night.
