MLB: White Sox 9, Tigers 5

Miguel Vargas homered twice, Tristan Peters and Munetaka Murakami went deep once each, and the White Sox beat the Tigers on Friday night. Vargas went 4 for 5 and had his third multihomer game as Chicago extended its lead atop the AL Central to 3 1/2 games.


MLB: Yankees 1, Blue Jays 3

Alejandro Kirk homered and hit a tiebreaking double, Shane Bieber pitched six innings to win for the fourth time in six starts and the Blue Jays beat the Yankees on Friday to continue their playoff push. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left after colliding with rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. on a chaotic play at third base in the sixth inning.


MLB: Mariners 7, Astros 10 (10)

Christian Walker’s three-run home run with two outs in the 10th inning lifted the Astros to a walk-off win over the Mariners on Friday night. Yordan Alvarez hit a solo shot, his AL-leading 36th of the season, in the first and Isaac Paredes had two hits and drove in three runs for Houston.


MLB: Padres 7, Guardians 5

Luis Campusano and Xander Bogaerts each drove in three runs, Fernando Tatis Jr. homered for the fifth time in nine games and the Padres overcame an early three-run deficit to defeat the Guardians on Friday night.


MLB: Diamondbacks 2, Braves 0

Brandon Pfaadt allowed only two hits in seven innings in another strong start, Tim Tawa homered in the ninth and the Diamondbacks beat the Braves on Friday night. Pfaadt (7-1) outdueled Braves ace Chris Sale, striking out seven without a walk.


MLB: Orioles 6, Rays 5

Dylan Beavers hit a two-run, pinch-hit single in the seventh to put Baltimore ahead to stay, Gunnar Henderson and Colton Cowser homered, and the Orioles beat Tampa Bay on Friday night to snap the Rays' nine-game winning streak.


MLB: Red Sox 4, Pirates 8

Brandon Lowe hit a three-run home run and rookie Rafael Flores Jr. homered for the third time in two days to lead the Pirates past the Red Sox on Friday night. Boston lost for the sixth time in seven games after winning 28 of 36.


MLB: Cardinals 0, Cubs 3

Clay Holmes and three Cubs relievers combined on a three-hitter, and Seiya Suzuki hit a three-run homer to send Chicago to a win over the Cardinals on Friday. Holmes, making his second start since being acquired from the Mets at the trade deadline, struck out three, walked one and allowed one hit in 6 2/3 innings.


Jays set to face rival Yankees sitting just two games out of final Wild Card spot

Having won 10 of their last 15 games, the Blue Jays sit just two games behind the Tigers for the third and final AL Wild Card spot as the Yankees come to town for a three-game series. Meanwhile, the pressure is starting to creep up on the Bronx Bombers as they sit just three games ahead of the Red Sox for the first Wild Card spot.


26 Hall of Fame members emerge from corn at Field of Dreams

Major League Baseball came back to the Field of Dreams, carrying a big piece of Cooperstown. The pregame pomp before the Twins played the Phillies -- adjacent to the farmland where the 1989 fantasy was filmed -- featured 26 members of the Hall of Fame emerging from the outfield corn just as the ghost players did in the movie.


MLB: Reds 9, White Sox 8

Sal Stewart, Eugenio Suarez and Tyler Stephenson homered, and the Reds held off the White Sox for a victory. Stewart scored four times and Suárez drove in four runs as Cincinnati took the rubber game in the three-game series.


MLB Field of Dreams Game: Phillies 7, Twins 1

Kyle Schwarber smashed two home runs into the corn behind right field to stretch his major league -leading total to 37, as the Phillies beat the Twins in the first game at the Field of Dreams movie site in four years.


MLB: Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 0

Rookie Payton Tolle allowed two hits over eight innings, Caleb Durbin hit a grand slam, and the Red Sox ended their five-game skid with a victory over the Blue Jays. Tolle struck out four, threw 91 pitches and retired his last 17 batters while matching the longest outing of his career.


MLB: Pirates 13, Marlins 1

Braxton Ashcraft threw a complete-game three-hitter, Rafael Flores had a pair of three-run homers, and the Pirates beat the Marlins. Jared Triolo and Jacob Gonzalez also went deep for Pittsburgh, which snapped a three-game skid.


MLB: Cubs 0, Nationals 7

Cade Cavalli took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and the Nationals blanked the Cubs to avoid a three-game sweep. Cavalli struck out 10 while setting career-highs in innings and pitches.


MLB: Guardians 0, Tigers 3

Eduardo Valencia slapped his fifth homer of the season, and Keider Montero pitched three-hit ball into the seventh inning as the Tigers blanked the Guardians despite failing to record a strikeout.


MLB: Mariners 1, Yankees 0

Logan Gilbert pitched six innings and combined with three relievers on a four-hitter as the Mariners ended a six-game skid with a victory over the Yankees. Weston Wilson homered in the second inning off Max Fried to send Seattle to just its sixth win in 21 games.
