James McCann hit a solo homer in the eighth inning and eight Arizona pitchers combined for a shutout as the Diamondbacks avoided a three-game sweep by beating the Phillies. Arizona is now a half-game ahead of the Padres for the third and final NL wild card.

Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a three-run homer to become the fastest player in major league history to reach 200 home runs and 200 stolen bases as the Braves shelled the Nationals.

Henry Bolte had his first career multihomer game, while Zack Gelof, Jonah Heim and Alika Williams also went deep, as the Athletics scored nine unanswered runs to beat the Rangers.


MLB: Padres 3, Reds 7

Rookie Juan Brito hit his first home run, JJ Bleday and Héctor Rodríguez also went deep and the Reds scored seven unanswered runs to beat the Padres on Wednesday.

The Cardinals hit five home runs, including a pair by Thomas Saggese and a two-run shot from Home Run Derby champion Jordan Walker, in a win over the Dodgers.

Royce Lewis and Ryan Jeffers hit three-run homers during a 10-run sixth inning for the Twins to highlight a 15-2 victory over the skidding Tigers.

The Giants scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to tie it before the Pirates walked it off on an error to spoil San Frans' comeback.


MLB: Yankees 7, Angels 3

Spencer Jones homered and drove in three runs, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. also went deep to finish with three hits as the Yankees pulled away for a victory over the Angels.

TJ Rumfield broke a seventh-inning tie with a two-run homer as the Rockies beat the Orioles to snap their franchise-record home losing streak at 10 games. Baltimore dropped 1 1/2 games behind Cleveland for the final American League wild card.


MLB: Blue Jays 1, Guardians 6

Gavin Williams struck out a career-high 13 and allowed just two singles in seven innings, leading the Guardians to a win over the Blue Jays in a matchup of teams in the thick of the AL wild-card race. Patrick Bailey, rookie Angel Genao and Angel Martinez all hit two-run homers for Cleveland, who is 11-4 since Aug. 12.

Blue Jays head to Cleveland for critical series in playoff push

With the sweep over the Mariners on the weekend, the Jays are now within a game and a half of the Cleveland Guardians (69-68) for the final AL wild-card spot. The Guardians are playing excellent baseball right now, and have won eight of their past 10 games. The Jays have won three straight, so both teams are ready for this big series.
