Gausman takes the mound as Blue Jays open series against rival Rays

It's a battle of aces in Toronto tonight as Kevin Gausman and Drew Rasmussen face off to open a three-game series. The Jays are looking to bounce back from a loss to the Angels on Sunday and exact some revenge on the rival Rays, who swept Toronto last week in Tampa Bay.

MLB: Angels 6, Blue Jays 1

Jo Adell hit a pair of solo homers, Jose Soriano struck out seven over 7 2/3 innings to stop a three-start winless steak and the Angels avoided a three-game sweep by beating the Blue Jays.

MLB: Rockies 0, Phillies 6

Kyle Schwarber homered twice, Bryce Harper also went deep and the Phillies beat the Rockies to win for the 10th time in 13 games since Don Mattingly replaced Rob Thomson as manager.

MLB: Yankees 3, Brewers 4

Brice Turang homered off David Bednar with two outs in the ninth inning, and the Brewers completed a three-game sweep of the Yankees.

MLB: Angels 1, Blue Jays 14

Brandon Valenzuela hit a three-run home run, Ernie Clement had a solo homer among his career-high tying five hits and the Blue Jays used a seven-run fifth inning to rout the Angels. Valenzuela went 4-for-5, with four RBI in his first career four-hit game, coming within a triple of the cycle.

MLB: Angels 0, Blue Jays 2

Dylan Cease struck out 10, reaching double digits for the third time in eight starts this season, and the Blue Jays stopped a four-game losing streak by beating the Angels and dealing Los Angeles its 14th defeat in 18 games.

MLB: Mets 2, Rockies 6

Jake McCarthy hit a grand slam and matched a career-high with five RBI as the Rockies snapped a six-game losing streak with a victory over the Mets on Thursday. The eighth-inning grand slam snapped a 2-2 tie and was the second home run in as many days for McCarthy.

MLB: Rays 8, Red Sox 4

Pinch-hitter Chandler Simpson broke a sixth-inning tie with a two-run single and the Rays won their seventh straight game by beating the Red Sox Thursday night. Junior Caminero hit a two-run homer in the ninth, his 10th of the season, and Yandy Díaz got his 1,000th career hit.

MLB: Reds 3, Cubs 8

Michael Conforto went 3 for 3 with a homer and two RBI, Shota Imanaga pitched six innings of one-run ball, and the Cubs extended their winning streak to nine games with a win over the Reds on Thursday.

MLB: Rangers 2, Yankees 9

Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt both hit triples, Trent Grisham had three hits and three RBI, and the Yankees offence came alive in the sixth inning to rout the Rangers. Ryan McMahon reached base four times after coming in for Jasson Dominguez, who exited early after hurting his shoulder making a terrific catch.
