Jacob deGrom retired his first 15 batters and struck out 12 for his highest total since 2022, but Julio Rodríguez hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off Jakob Junis in a four-run seventh that lifted the Mariners over the Rangers on Thursday. Texas dropped two games back for the last AL wild-card spot.


MLB: Guardians 5, Orioles 9

Dylan Beavers had two hits and three RBI in an eight-run third inning that carried the Orioles past the Guardians on Wednesday night. Coby Mayo tacked on a sixth-inning homer for Baltimore, which had lost seven of eight before cranking up their offence against Cleveland lefty Foster Griffin.


MLB: Blue Jays 0, Athletics 2

Henry Bolte hit a solo home run in the third inning and Tyler White scored on a wild pitch as the Athletics beat the Blue Jays on Wednesday to win for the sixth time in eight games. Toronto has lost three of its last four games and now sits 1 game behind Cleveland in the race for the final AL wild-card spot.

Cam Schlittler continued to build his Cy Young case with 10 strikeouts and only one run allowed in seven sharp innings, Heliot Ramos hit a pinch-hit three-run homer and the Yankees beat the Rockies Tuesday night. Aaron Judge went 0/3 with two strikeouts in his first appearance since May 31 after missing 84 games with a broken rib.


MLB: Guardians 9, Orioles 5

Travis Bazzana hit a three-run homer, Brayan Rocchio drove in two runs, and the Guardians outlasted the Orioles on Tuesday night to remain at least one game up in the race for the final AL wild-card spot. Tanner Bibee tossed 4 1/3 innings for Cleveland, surrendering five runs on six hits.


MLB: Blue Jays 4, Athletics 2

Kazuma Okamoto and Josh Smith hit home runs, José Soriano worked seven innings of two-run ball, and the Blue Jays beat the Athletics on Tuesday night. Toronto (73-73) sits a game back of the Cleveland Guardians for the third and final AL wild-card spot.


MLB: Twins 3, Tigers 2

Kody Clemens hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning against his former team and the Twins beat the Tigers on Tuesday night to help Dean Kremer win for the first time since Aug. 10. Minnesota had lost four of five, while Detroit is 6-18 since Aug. 14 and needs a win Wednesday to avoid their eighth straight losing series.

Andres Gimenez crushed a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to tie it, but Jeff McNeil legged out an infield single with the bases-loaded in the bottom half as the Athletics walked off the Blue Jays. Toronto remained a game behind Cleveland for the final AL wild card spot.


MLB: Guardians 4, Orioles 6

Trevor Rogers pitched into the eighth inning, Coby Mayo homered twice and the Orioles took advantage of Cleveland's wildness on the mound, beating the Guardians to snap a six-game losing streak.


MLB: Angels 2, Red Sox 5

Adley Rutschman hit a three-run homer off the Pesky Pole in right field, Brayan Bello pitched five scoreless innings in his first start since early June and the Red Sox beat the Angels for their fifth straight victory.


MLB: Reds 3, Dodgers 6

Teoscar Hernandez hit a three-run homer, Emmet Sheehan tied a career high with 10 strikeouts in his first major league outing since Aug. 2 and the Dodgers defeated the Reds. Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk in his return to the lineup after a four-day break to heal multiple lingering injuries.
