Blue Jays’ Scherzer lands on IL; RHP Lee recalled from Triple-A

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed starting pitcher Max Scherzer on the 15-day injured list with right forearm tendonitis and left ankle inflammation, the team announced Monday. Right-handed pitcher Chase Lee has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.

With runners on second and third, Lane Thomas delivered a three-run homer in the 10th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals over the Los Angeles Angels 11-9 and sweep the series.

Manny Machado hit a pair of home runs, driving in five runs, leading to a 7-1 Padres lead in the sixth inning, but the next 11 runs? They all went to the Diamondbacks, as they started mashing to come all the way back and then some, besting the Padres in the MLB's Mexico City series.

Jesus Sanchez hit a two-run home run to take the lead, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had three hits, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cleveland Guardians 4-2 on Sunday.

Spencer Arrighetti allowed one run over seven innings, and Christian Walker homered and drove home a season-high four runs, and the Houston Astros beat New York 7-4 on Sunday to snap the Yankees' eight-game win streak.

Kazuma Okamoto homered for the second straight game, Andrés Giménez hit a two-run single and the Blue Jays beat the Guardians 5-3 on Saturday. Kevin Gausman, allowed two runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings, Mason Fluharty got one out, Tyler Rogers worked the eighth and Louis Varland survived a rocky ninth inning for his second save in two chances.


Report: Red Sox fire longtime manager Alex Cora

The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora and five members of his coaching staff Saturday in a stunning early season overhaul with the club sitting in last place in the American League East. Chad Tracy, a former major leaguer and manager of Boston's Triple-A affiliate in Worcester since 2022, was named interim manager.

Paul Skenes had a perfect game into the seventh inning, Konnor Griffin hit his first career home run on his 20th birthday and drove in three runs to help the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-0 on Friday night.


MLB: Guardians 8, Blue Jays 6

Angel Martínez went deep twice for his first career multi-homer game, Daniel Schneemann added the first leadoff homer of his career and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-6 on Friday night. All three home runs came off Toronto’s Max Scherzer (1-3), who allowed seven runs and six hits in 2 1/3 innings, his fourth straight winless outing.


Matheson details what Jays' closer role by committee would look like

Jeff Hoffman has been struggling this season with an ERA over seven and his spot in the closer's role coming into question. Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins mentioned that the role will be shared going forward. TSN's Keegan Matheson joins SportsCentre to share what he thinks that will look like and if he believes it's the right decision for Toronto.

Jeff Hoffman has had a tough start to the season. In twelve outings this year, he has three blown saves, two losses, and has gotten the job done in just three of seven save situations. Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins suggests, for the time being, the closer role for Toronto will be a shared responsibility and gives an update on starting pitcher Trey Yesavage's status and when they could possibly expect him back.


MLB: Twins 8, Mets 10

The New York Mets survived a ninth-inning bullpen mix-up when Huascar Brazobán went to the mound as closer Devin Williams started walking in, then hung on to beat the Minnesota Twins 10-8 Thursday night behind Bo Bichette's tiebreaking, three-run double for their second straight win after a 12-game skid.


MLB: Dodgers 3, Giants 0

Tyler Glasnow and Tanner Scott combined on a one-hitter, and the Dodgers avoided a three-game series sweep with a win over the Giants on Thursday. Kyle Tucker and Hyeseong Kim had two hits apiece as NL West-leading Los Angeles won for the second time in six games.
