Spencer Torkelson hit a three-run homer, Drew Anderson pitched five shutout innings and the Detroit Tigers won their sixth straight game by thumping the Toronto Blue Jays 10-1 on Tuesday night. The Blue Jays have lost six of nine. Toronto fell two games behind Cleveland in the race for the final American League wild card after the Guardians rallied in the ninth to beat the Chicago White Sox 7-6.

Max Fried earned his first victory since April 27, backed by home runs from Cody Bellinger and Spencer Jones that helped the New York Yankees keep pace in the AL East race with an 8-1 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.


Running out of time to chase down a playoff spot, Jays turn to bullpen against Tigers

The Blue Jays are back in action against the Tigers on Tuesday and will lean on their bullpen a day after Detroit came back to snap Toronto's two-game win streak. Tristan Peters fouled off 12 pitches in an 18-pitch plate appearance that keyed Chicago's six-run outburst in the sixth inning and the White Sox beat the Guardians 7-3 on Monday night to stay atop the AL Central.

Zach McKinstry scored the winning run on a missed-catch error in the ninth inning after Brett Callahan hit a tying RBI single in the eighth, and the Tigers outlasted the Blue Jays 6-5 on Monday night.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went four-for-four, including his first home run at Rogers Centre all season long, while George Springer and Kazuma Okamoto also went deep as the Blue Jays beat the Orioles. Cleveland also won on Sunday, which had Toronto keep pace in the wild card race.
