Browns name Deshaun Watson, not Shedeur Sanders, as starting QB

Deshaun Watson will open the season as the Browns' starting quarterback. Watson, 30, emerged as the starter in a competition with second-year QB Shedeur Sanders that began in the offseason workouts and stretched into the first two preseason games. Cleveland faces Jacksonville on the road in Week 1.


49ers activate TE Kittle from PUP list; Raiders RB Jeanty believed to have sprained ankle

The 49ers activated tight end George Kittle from the physically unable to perform list Sunday as he takes the most significant step yet in his return from a torn right Achilles. In other news, Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty, who had to be helped off the practice field on Sunday, is believed to have sprained his ankle, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.


NFL: Saints 0, Rams 34

Stetson Bennett passed for 181 yards and rushed for two TDs while leading the Rams to a 20-point halftime lead Saturday, and Los Angeles cruised to a 34-0 preseason victory over the New Orleans Saints.


NFL: Falcons 34, Colts 6

Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks Cooper Rush and Jack Strand took advantage of perhaps their last opportunity to shine this season. Rush, who was signed last month, and Strand, an undrafted rookie, completed 16 of their first 17 throws while leading the Falcons to scores on five of their first six drives in a 34-6 rout of the Indianapolis Colts, snapping Atlanta's eight-game preseason losing streak.


NFL: Commanders 13, Lions 17

Joshua Dobbs ran for a 50-yard touchdown and the Detroit Lions held on for a 17-13 preseason win against the Washington Commanders on Saturday.
