Calder Cup: Chicago Wolves 3, Toronto Marlies 4

The Toronto Marlies are Calder Cup champions for the second time, and first since 2018, after beating the Chicago Wolves 4-3 in Game 5 of the best-of-seven final on Friday night. Easton Cowan had three assists and finished with 18 points in 22 playoff games after his rookie season with the Leafs ended. TOR wins series 4-1.


Three-time Stanley Cup winner Toews announces retirement after 16 NHL seasons

Jonathan Toews is retiring from his playing career. He appeared in all 82 games for the Jets this season, scoring 11 goals and adding 18 assists. The 2010 Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the playoffs’ most valuable player, Toews has 383 goals and 529 assists in 1,149 games. The former Chicago captain reflected on his time on the ice.

After Chicago scored on four of 26 shots to stay alive in the Calder Cup Finals, Wolves coach Spiros Anastas suggested his team may have finally "cracked" Artur Akhtyamov. But John Gruden shrugged off that comment while confirming Akhtyamov will start again Friday. "He has been the best goalie in the playoffs," the Marlies coach said. Babcock cleared in NHL investigation as Oilers close in on coach

Mike Babcock has been cleared to coach again in the NHL. “The League has completed its review of Mike Babcock’s tenure in Columbus, and of certain alleged conduct associated therewith. Our investigation has concluded that, even in a light least favorable to Mr. Babcock, there is no current basis to restrict his employment in the League,” the NHL said in a statement released Thursday afternoon.
