The Talking Point: Was it the same problems of the past for the Oilers?

The Mike Babcock era got off to a losing start in Edmonton with the head coach saying his team had 'serious work to do' in order to set a better standard for themselves. TSN Hockey analyst Jamie McLennan discusses whether or not we saw the same old problems for the Oilers.

NHL: Canucks 6, Oilers 5 (OT)

Evan Bouchard completed his hat trick and Vasily Podkolzin potted a pair to erase the Canucks three-goal lead in the third period to force overtime. But Paul Cotter's second of the game would spoil Edmonton's home opener.

NHL: Blackhawks 2, Golden Knights 5

Jack Eichel had a goal and two assists to reach 701 career points, and the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 in their season opener Tuesday night.

NHL: Canadiens 3, Maple Leafs 2

Alexandre Carrier's third period goal was the game-winner and Jakub Dobes made 26 saves to back the Canadiens to their first win of the season. Auston Matthews 10-0-0 home opener win streak came to an end with the loss.

NHL: Rangers 0, Bruins 3

Fraser Minten finished with a goal and an assist, while Jeremy Swayman made 24 saves to open his season with a shutout against the Rangers.

NHL: Panthers 1, Hurricanes 0 (OT)

Gustav Forsling scored the game's lone goal with 4.3 seconds remaining in overtime as the Panthers spoiled Carolina's banner raising celebration. Jacob Markstrom made 15 saves for the shutout in his Florida debut.
