Bjorck, Bauer to make NHL debuts for Jets tonight

18-year-old forward Viggo Bjorck and 24-year-old defenceman Tyrel Bauer will make their NHL debuts tonight as the Jets open their regular season against the Bruins. Bjorck, the eighth-overall pick in the 2026 draft, played in the Swedish Hockey League last year, while Bauer spent the last four seasons with the AHL's Manitoba Moose.


NHL: Panthers 3, Sharks 4 (OT)

Luca Cagnoni scored at 3:41 in overtime to lift the Sharks to a win over the Panthers in their season-opener. Florida captain Aleksander Barkov left the game midway through the second period after appearing to suffer a lower-body injury, and did not return.


NHL: Kraken 6, Flames 1

Vince Dunn had a goal and two assists, Matty Beniers scored and had an assist, and the Seattle Kraken beat the Calgary Flames 6-1 in the season opener for both teams.


NHL: Oilers 9, Canucks 7

Connor McDavid scored his first goal of the season and tallied four assists as the Edmonton Oilers outlasted the Vancouver Canucks for a wild 9-7 victory on Thursday.
