Habs Ice Chips: Second line could be in question for home opener

The Canadiens' second line could be in question for Tuesday's home opener against the Hurricanes, with Ivan Demidov missing practice Monday for what was ruled as a therapy day, and Martin St. Louis not confirming whether or not Oliver Kapanen will be in the lineup. TSN's Kenzie Lalonde has more.


Habs not dwelling on ECF loss to Canes, believe they have blueprint to beat the champs

The Canadiens will face the Hurricanes on Tuesday night in the first meeting between the teams since their Eastern Conference Finals meeting last season, in which Carolina dominated the Habs in just five games. Members of the team spoke about how they reflect on that series, the lessons learned from playing against the eventual Stanley Cup champs, and how they're approaching this contest against them.


NHL: Golden Knights 3, Canucks 2

Marc Gatcomb scored the go-ahead goal late on the second period and the Golden Knights downed the Canucks 3-2 on Sunday night. Mitch Marner scored his first goal of the season and Victor Olofsson added a power-play score for the Golden Knights.


NHL: Flames 1, Kraken 6

Berkly Catton, Mackie Samoskevich and Bobby McMann scored within the first eight minutes of the game and the Kraken cruised to a 6-1 win over the Flames on Sunday night.


NHL: Jets 3, Red Wings 2

Kyle Connor scored two of Winnipeg's three power-play goals and added an assist on the third as the Jets held off the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 on Sunday.


NHL: Panthers 2, Ducks 3 (OT)

Cutter Gauthier scored two power-play goals and captain Mikael Granlund had a power-play goal 4:14 into overtime, sending the Ducks to a 3-2 victory over the Panthers on Sunday night and their 11th consecutive win in home openers.


NHL: Mammoth 2, Rangers 4

Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves and had an assist on Eeli Tolvanen's empty-net goal with 1:15 remaining and the Rangers beat the Mammoth 4-2 on Sunday night.


NHL: Flames 1, Canucks 4

Liam Ohgren celebrated his 100th NHL game by scoring a goal and assisting on defenceman Elias Pettersson’s winner as the Canucks defeated the Flames on Saturday night.


NHL: Senators 3, Maple Leafs 2

Stephen Halliday broke a tie at 9:46 of the third period, Linus Ullmark made 27 saves, and the Senators opened their season with a victory over the Maple Leafs on Saturday night. Auston Matthews and Kirill Marchenko scored for Toronto, and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 26 shots.


NHL: Kings 4, Sharks 5 (OT)

Igor Chernyshov scored his second goal of the game with 1:42 remaining in overtime and the Sharks beat the Kings on Saturday night for their second straight win to open the season.


NHL: Blues 1, Avalanche 6

Nicolas Roy and Martin Necas scored 23 seconds apart in a four-goal second period, and the Avalanche thumped the Blues on Saturday night. Nathan MacKinnon continued his hot start with three assists and has five points in Colorado's first two games.


NHL: Kraken 1, Oilers 3

Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist to give him nine points through three games as the Oilers beat the Kraken on Saturday night. Owen Michaels and Leon Draisaitl also scored for Edmonton while Devon Levi made 19 saves to earn the win.


NHL: Canadiens 5, Penguins 6 (OT)

Tommy Novak scored his second goal of the game in overtime to give the Penguins a victory over the Canadiens on Saturday night. Novak converted a 2-on-1 from Evgeni Malkin at 1:33 of overtime, as Pittsburgh recovered after allowing a four-goal lead in the second period slip away.


NHL: Bruins 1, Wild 4

Kirill Kaprizov scored twice, Jesper Wallstedt made 26 saves, and the Wild beat the Bruins on Saturday night. Quinn Hughes had a goal and an assist, and Jared Spurgeon also scored.


NHL: Hurricanes 3, Flyers 2 (OT)

Sebastian Aho scored a pair of goals and assisted on Shayne Gostisbehere's overtime winner as the Hurricanes beat the Flyers on Saturday night.
