NATAL, Brazil - Christine Sinclair scored two goals and Nichelle Prince added a single as the Canadian women's soccer team defeated Mexico 3-0 on Wednesday at the International Tournament of Natal.

All three goals came in the first half of the opening friendly at the Arena das Dunas.

"I am really happy with some parts of the performance," said Canada's head coach John Herdman. "Seeing Nichelle Prince score was fantastic. But importantly, Sinclair doing what Sinclair does, it was nice to see. I think the girls really enjoyed it."

Sinclair opened the scoring with a strike off a long pass from Kadeisha Buchanan in the 13th minute, and it wasn't long before Canada's captain found the net again on a cross from Rhian Wilkinson in the 19th.

Canada's third goal came in dying seconds of the first half when Prince caught a deflection off a Mexican player in front of the net and popped it up over the keeper.

Herdman fielded a blend of experience and youth, including four teenagers, and gave three young players their first international "A" caps — Gabrielle Carle (17), Deanne Rose (16), and Kennedy Faulknor (16). Jessie Fleming (17) earned her 19th cap, having debuted at this competition in Brazil in 2013.

"That was a top Mexican team, they looked in shape and looked ready to play," said Herdman. "I think the fact that we were able to play a couple of 16 year old's out there, give them the debuts, it was great."

Canada will next play Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.

The Canadian side is using the four-team tournament as a warm-up event ahead of the 2016 CONCACAF Women's Olympic qualifier in February.
