Canada using matches vs. Denmark as tune-up for FIFA World Cup, Olympic qualifiers

Canada will be playing against Denmark this Friday and Monday in preparation for the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, where Canada will compete for qualification to both the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 2028 Olympic Games. Head coach Casey Stoney spoke about the growth of the squad since she joined while defender Gabrielle Carle said playing a quality side like Denmark will serve as a good test.


International Friendly: Canada 0, United States 1

A goal from Justin Ellis lifted the United States over Canada’s men’s soccer team in a friendly. Canada’s squad suffered a costly injury, too, with vice-captain Stephen Eustaquio leaving the game after playing the final minutes of the first half with a collarbone injury. Canada finished the international window with a 2-1-0 record.


MLS: Fire 3, Whitecaps 1

Philip Zinckernagel scored early in the second half, and Maren Haile-Selassie had a late goal and an assist as the Fire beat the Whitecaps in a matchup of former Bayern Munich teammates Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller.

Lionel Messi scored a penalty in the 71st minute and added assists on goals from Nicolás Otamendi and Nico Paz, as the Argentina legend capped his international career in vintage form to lead his country to a win over Benin. The match was paused in the 10th minute as fans honoured Messi with a minute-long standing ovation.
