Morning Coffee: Canada opens as heavy favourite versus South Africa in Round of 32

Published:

The entire country was emotionally invested in the same wager for 90 minutes on Wednesday.

No, I’m not talking about the Morning Coffee best bets, which went 2-0 to kick off Matchday 3.

Canada to win or draw versus Switzerland and clinch first place in Group B was the one bet that every Canadian wanted to hit.

While they didn’t get their ideal result in a 2-1 loss to Switzerland, Canada finished second in Group B and will advance to play South Africa in the Round of 32.

Canada to record four points was always considered the most likely result for the group stage at +340 at FanDuel.

Now the expectation is that Canada will find a way to extend their tournament as a -300 favourite to advance to the Round of 16 versus South Africa on Sunday.

That number represents a 75 per cent implied probability that Canada will advance to the next round.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands is expected to clinch first place in Group F with a win over Tunisia tonight.

In that scenario, the Netherlands would play Morocco in the Round of 32, with the winner playing the winner of Canada versus South Africa in the Round of 32.

What else should we expect as Matchday 3 continues?

Let’s set the stage for today’s matches and lock in a couple more FanDuel Best Bets in the Morning Coffee column for Thursday June 25th, 2026.

Netherlands, Cote d’Ivoire Positioned To Secure Statement Wins On Thursday

Thursday’s tournament action will kick off at 4 PM ET when Group E winner Germany faces Ecuador and Cote d’Ivoire plays Curacao.

We know that Germany will play a third-place team from one of Group A, B, C, D or F in the Round of 32.

Today, we’ll find out who will join them in the knockout stage with Cote d’Ivoire the obvious candidate.

Cote d’Ivoire can advance with a win or draw as a heavy favourite versus Curacao.

Ecuador needs a win over Germany to improve its chances at +480 to qualify for the knockout stage.

Curacao is +1700 to qualify, needing a win over Cote d’Ivoire and a Germany win or draw versus Ecuador.

For a FanDuel Best Bet, I’ll lock in a Same Game Parlay with Cote d’Ivoire to lead Curacao at the half and to win the match by two or more goals at -139.

Curacao impressed with a scoreless draw versus Ecuador, but that was a major step up from a 7-1 loss to Germany in their opener, and I’m not sure they can shut the door again versus Cote d’Ivoire.

Ecuador registered 15 shots on target in that draw.

Cote d’Ivoire should dominate possession tonight and if they can find a way to break through in the first 45 then they will have a good shot to win this match by two or more goals.

Next up, I like the Netherlands to clinch first place in Group F with a convincing win over Tunisia.

In case you missed it, I locked in Netherlands -1.5 -126 following their second match of the tournament.

That number has moved from -126 to -320 at FanDuel.

Netherlands -1.5 -126 is my best bet for the match.

I believe the Netherlands can win this match by three or four goals, so I don’t mind the idea of playing -2.5 -113 this morning, even though it’s terrible CLV.

Meanwhile, Netherlands -3.5 is +215 at FanDuel.

As for my final best bet, I’ll go with both teams to score in the late match between the USA and Turkiye at -158.

Prior to the start of the tournament, some thought this match would determine first place in Group D.

Instead, the USA has already clinched first place, while Turkiye has been eliminated following a pair of brutal losses to Australia and Paraguay.

Their lack of finish has been an obvious concern as they haven’t scored a single goal despite dominating possession versus each of their first two opponents.

Failing to score a single goal in the tournament would be a complete embarrassment.

I’ll bank on their desperation combined with the USA already locking up top spot in the group leading to a wide open, entertaining contest with both teams registering at least one goal in the match.

Hopefully, we can sweep the best bets in this column and head into Friday on a hot streak.

Have a great day, everyone!
