Alouettes likely to rest QB Alexander, others in season-finale against Argos

The Montreal Alouettes are likely to once again rest their stars in next week’s season-finale against the Toronto Argonauts, head coach Jason Maas told reporters after Saturday’s game.

Montreal fell 16-12 to the Saskatchewan Roughriders Saturday in Regina without stars Davis Alexander, Tyson Philpot and Tyler Snead.

The Alouettes have clinched first place in the Eastern Division and will host the Eastern Final on Nov. 7, with a chance to punch their ticket to the 113th Grey Cup. The Alouettes cannot lose ground or improve their seeding in the final week of the season next week.

Dustin Crum started under centre for the Als Saturday against the Roughriders, who was 20-of-26 for 185 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Meanwhile, kicker Jose Maltos Diaz (arm) and defensive back Faion Hicks (leg), who were both injured and carted off on the same play in the fourth quarter, are receiving imaging and being evaluated, Maas said.

The Als and Argos will kick off Week 21 next Friday before the postseason begins the following weekend.
