Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly avoided the worst-case scenario with his knee injury suffered Friday against the Ottawa Redblacks, reports TSN Football Insider Dave Naylor.
Kelly is considered day-to-day and his status for the Eastern Division semifinal on Oct. 31 cannot yet be determined.
Kelly suffered the injury early in the first quarter after a scramble ended in a tackle by Redblacks defensive lineman Luigi Vilain. The Argos’ pivot came up hobbling before taking a knee, but was able to walk off under his own power.
Nick Arbuckle came on to replace Kelly as the Argos eventually lost 40-39, giving the Redblacks their first win of the season.
The 32-year-old Kelly was also a late scratch for the team’s 24-17 loss to the BC Lions in Week 18 with a hand injury.
Kelly has thrown for a career-high 5,067 yards with 33 touchdowns compared to 24 interceptions this season. He also has 183 rushing yards and three rushing TDs.
The Argos will wrap up their regular season against the Montreal Alouettes Friday night before playing in the Eastern semifinal the week after.
