With starting quarterback Nathan Rourke sidelined for the foreseeable future with an injury, it appears the BC Lions will add quarterback Tyrie Adams to their roster, according to Farhan Lalji.
Adams, 29, spent the four previous seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks, throwing for 405 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions over eight games in 2025.
The native of St. Petersburg, Florida did not sign with a CFL team during the off-season, instead inking a deal with the Salina Liberty of the National Arena League.
Adams, who played his collegiate football at Western Carolina, has 23 games of CFL experience, all with the Redblacks from 2022 to 2025.
Rourke suffered an injury to his non-throwing shoulder on the second play of Friday’s loss to the Edmonton Elks when he was sacked by defensive lineman Noah Taylor.
Lalji reported the injury is expected to keep Rourke sidelined for “a few weeks.”
Backup Chase Brice replaced Rourke against the Elks, throwing for 226 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions as the Lions fell to 1-4 on the season.
Brice, 28, is in his fourth season with the Lions.
Quarterback Kaidon Salter, 23, is also on the Lions’ roster, but hasn’t thrown a pass this season.
The 28-year-old Rourke has thrown 1,403 passing yards alongside five touchdown and four interceptions over five games this season, his fifth in BC.
Rourke, the CFL’s reigning Most Outstanding Player, threw for 5,290 passing yards last season with 31 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
He is also a two-time winner of the CFL Most Outstanding Canadian award, taking home the trophy in 2022 and 2025.
