The BC Lions signed running back James Butler to a two-year contract extension on Thursday.
The moves comes as Butler was approaching reaching free agency on Feb. 10 after a career year with the Lions in 2025.
Butler rushed for 1,213 yards and a CFL-best 11 touchdowns last season, his fourth with the Lions. He added 46 catches for 439 receiving yards.
“JB is one of the most complete running backs in this league, excelling as a runner, catching passes out of the backfield, and holding up in pass protection,” Lions general manager Ryan Rigmaiden said. “He will continue to give coach Pierce a reliable weapon for his offence and another strong leader in our locker room.”
