BC Lions owner Amar Doman is interested in purchasing BC Place from the government of British Columbia, according to TSN’s Farhan Lalji.
B.C. Member of the Legislative Assembly Ravi Kahlon admitted to Postmedia’s Patrick Johnson Friday morning that the province would consider selling the 43-year-old stadium, “if the parameters are there.”
Doman recently submitted a letter of interest to the Provincial government, according to Lalji, as the Lions also recently signed an extension to their lease at BC Place.
The idea of purchasing or managing BC Place has been something that has been of keen interest to Doman for more than two years, according to Lalji, but he wasn’t convinced the province would consider the possibility. Doman’s interest in the stadium preceded, and is not connected to, the current ownership plight of the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Discussions around the future of the stadium have intensified during the highly successful World Cup. In recent months, the subject of the MLS Whitecaps potentially taking on a management contract for the stadium had been regarded as a potential solution to keeping that franchise in British Columbia.
