McLeod Bethel-Thompson will be under centre for the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday when Ryan Dinwiddie’s 0-15 team visits the BC Lions.
It could be the veteran quarterback’s final appearance of the season.
TSN Football Insider Dave Naylor notes the team plans to start rookie Bryson Barnes in the final two games of the season.
A 38-year-old native of San Francisco, Bethel-Thompson is in his eighth CFL season and first with the Redblacks. In 12 games this season, he’s thrown for 1,300 yards on 99-for-165 passing with eight touchdowns to three interceptions. The Sacramento State product has also suited up for the Montreal Alouettes, Edmonton Elks and Toronto Argonauts with whom he won two Grey Cups.
Barnes, 25, is in his first CFL season. The Utah State product has appeared in 13 contests for the Redblacks in 2026. He has nine rushing touchdowns.
Friday’s game is a big one for the 9-6 Lions. A victory over the Redblacks locks up a playoff spot. The Lions currently sit second in the West and are in line to host a playoff game.
