There are two Canadians have made the cut for the 154th Open Championship, the final men’s golf major of the season.
Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont. and Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C. are each looking for their first major championship.
Taylorfinished 1-over on Friday after bogeying the 18th hole. He finished the day with four bogeys and three birdies. Taylor sits at 1-under for the week and put him in a tie for 38th.
It’s the first time in four trips to the Open Championship that Taylor has made the cut.
Conners has played the weekend five straight years, highlighted by a T10 finish last year at Royal Portrush.
Conners jumped up the leaderboard during his early round on Friday at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England.
After finishing his opening round 1-over, Conners bogeyed his starting hole Friday and sat 1-over on the round through 11. But the 34-year-old caught fire on the back-nine, making birdie on five of his final seven holes to post a round of 3-under for the day.
That got him to 2-under for the week and put him in a tie for 25th. Conners was six shots back of leader Lucas Herbert at 8-under, who shot a 28 on the front-nine at Birkdale to match an Open Championship record.
