The first of three PGA Tour playoff events tees off on Thursday as the FedEx St. Jude Championship gets underway from TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn.
The top 70 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings qualified for this week’s tournament, but only 69 will be in the field. Daniel Berger qualified at No. 60 but did not commit to the tournament.
The top 50 finishers will move on to next week’s BMW Championship.
Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler enters the tournament having won just once in 17 starts this season, at the American Express in his first start back in January. He comes into the playoffs in good form, having finished tied for fourth at The Open followed by a second-place finish at the 3M Open. Scheffler was the FedEx Cup Champion in 2024.
Rory McIlroy (No. 12 in the FedEx Cup standings) will also be in the field on Thursday after making 11 PGA Tour starts this season. His only win came at The Masters in April, his second straight Green Jacket.
Defending FedEx Cup champion Tommy Fleetwood returns to the playoffs at No. 9 in the standings and in search of his first title since capping his 2025 season with a Tour Championship win at the end of last season.
Three Canadians have qualified for the playoffs. Sudarshan Yellamaraju (Mississauga, Ont.; No. 57), Corey Conners (Listowel, Ont.; No. 59) and Nick Taylor (Abbotsford, B.C.; No. 63) all locked up a spot prior to last week’s Wyndham Championship.
