With his daughter born around the same time, Burns wasn't even sure he'd be able to play in the final men's major of the year and is excited for the challenge of holding onto the lead on Sunday.

Lucas Herbert came a putt away from shooting the lowest round in major-championship history, but settled for a 62 to match the record. Sam Burns also matched history by holing out on 18 to also fire a 62 in the second round of the Open Championship. Controversy arose when Bryson DeChambeau was called back to the fifth hole and retroactively handed a two-stroke penalty for improving his lie before one of his shots.


The Open Championship: First Round Highlights

Jackson Suber shot a 5-under 65 to hold the solo lead following the first round at the 154th Open Championship, with stars Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau among those close behind. Canadian Nick Taylor is also in the mix after opening with a 2-under, while Corey Conners and Rory McIlroy struggled and sit outside the top 50.
