Addison Barger’s season is over.
It was announced Friday evening that the Toronto Blue Jays outfielder will have surgery on his right elbow which will sideline him for the rest of 2026. He’ll finish the year with just nine games played.
According to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson, Barger may undergo a full Tommy John procedure, which would come with an estimated nine-month rehab and cut into next season. Matheson adds that if only an internal brace is needed, he will likely miss closer to six months.
Barger was out more than a month from early April to early May with an ankle issue. Barger then injured his elbow in his first game back and also dealt with a back issue while rehabbing the elbow ailment.
He finishes the season just 1-for-22 at the plate with two RBI after having a .243/.301/.454 slash line with 21 home runs and 74 RBI the season before.
The Blue Jays are currently nine games under .500 and will begin their series in Boston Friday night against the Red Sox six games out of the final American League wild-card spot.
