Blue Jays acquire C Carapellotti from Athletics for recently-DFAed Juenger

Published:

The Toronto Blue Jays completed a minor swap with the Athletics on Saturday, sending pitcher Hayden Juenger in exchange for minor-league catcher Owen Carapellotti.

Juenger, 25, was designated for assignment earlier in the week to open up a spot for Shane Bieber on the 40-man roster.

Carapellotti, 23, was playing in Single-A in the Athletics' minor-league system this year, and hit .267/.389/.627 over 20 games with the Stockton Ports. He is currently on the 7-day injured list.

Prior to signing with the Athletics as an undrafted free agent, Carapellotti spent four seasons with Georgetown in NCAA.

The Blue Jays dropped their fifth consecutive game on Saturday in a 7-4 loss to the Texas Rangers to fall to 39-44 in a disappointing season.
