The Toronto Blue Jays made a series of roster moves before their Wednesday night game against the Tampa Bay Rays, recalling outfielder Yohendrick Pinango and pitcher CJ Van Eyk.
In a pair of corresponding moves, pitcher Lazaro Estrada was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo and outfielder Jonatan Clase was placed on the 10-day injured list with left plantar fasciitis.
The 24-year-old Pinango, who is penciled in batting fifth and playing left field in Wednesday night’s game, has appeared in 51 games with the Blue Jays in his rookie campaign this year, hitting .267 with five home runs and 20 runs batted in. He was sent back down to Triple-A on July 5 after spending over two months with the team.
Van Eyk, 27, made his major-league debut on July 17 against the Chicago White Sox, pitching two innings with one hit and one strikeout.
The Blue Jays enter tonight’s game against the Rays having dropped the first two of the series and with losses in six of their past seven games. At 46-55, the Blue Jays started the day six games behind the Boston Red Sox for the final wild-card slot in the American League.
