The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from the New York Mets, the team announced on Saturday.
Ross, 26, was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo by Toronto after being designated for assignment by the Mets on Friday.
A native of Santurce, Puerto Rico, Ross made his major league debut earlier this season with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 6-foot, 215-pound backstop played in two games for Pittsburgh in July, where he went 1-for-5 with a homer in five at-bats.
Ross was designated for assignment by the Pirates on July 27 before being claimed by the Mets.
He signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent in 2022, and owns a slash line of .189/.321/.413 with 53 home runs and 148 RBI across 285 minor league games between the Pirates and Mets organizations.
