Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has left the yard for the first time in more than a month.
The Blue Jays star first baseman hit a first-inning home run off right-hander Sonny Gray in Thursday’s series finale against the Boston Red Sox to give Toronto a 1-0 lead. It was his first home run in over a month, with his last coming on May 17 against the Detroit Tigers. Guerrero took a fastball down and in and hit it 410 feet over the Green Monster in left centre field.
The blast is No. 4 on the season for Guerrero as he aims to turn around a slow start to 2026 after a historic postseason last Fall.
Guerrero came into Thursday’s matchup with a slash line of .280/.368/.362 with 29 RBI. He now sits tied for eighth on the team in home runs.
Guerrero had 23 home runs and 84 RBI in 156 games last season and hit eight more home runs in the postseason as the Jays advanced all the way to Game 7 of the World Series.
Toronto enters play Thursday two games under .500 at 36-38, tied with the Athletics for the final wild-card spot in the American League.
