Blue Jays option C Valenzuela to Triple-A, assign five players to Minor League camp

The Toronto Blue Jays optioned catcher Brandon Valenzuela to Triple-A Buffalo, the team announced on Wednesday.

Valenzuela appeared in 11 Spring Training games for the Blue Jays and posted a .304 average with one home run and five RBIs in 23 at-bats.

The Blue Jays acquired Valenzuela from the San Diego Padres at the trade deadline last season for infielder Will Wagner.

After joining the franchise he spent the remainder of the season in AAA with the Bisons and hit .207 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 26 games.

The Blue Jays also assigned catcher Robert Brooks and infielders Rafael Lantigua, Riley Tirotta, Carlos Mendoza and Josh Rivera to Minor League camp.
