Blue Jays promote former first-round pick Barriera to High-A Vancouver

Brandon Barriera is moving up in the Toronto Blue Jays’ system.

It was announced Sunday that Barriera is being promoted from Low-A Dunedin to High-A Vancouver after four consecutive scoreless starts.

Barriera, 22, was the Jays’ first-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of high school in Florida. He had Tommy John surgery in April of 2024 and is in the midst of his first full season since 2023.

The 6-foot-2 left-hander has a 4.46 ERA split between two minor-league levels this season but has been particularly strong lately and not allowed an earned run this month in 13.2 innings. His most recent outing came Saturday against the Clearwater Threshers when he threw four scoreless frames.

Barriera has a career minor-league ERA of 5.11 in four MiLB seasons.

After wrapping up their series with the New York Yankees Sunday afternoon in the Bronx, Toronto will head home to begin a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.
